Food is a big part of Ukrainian culture. This tradition likely comes from the fertile land and soil to grow products such as wheat. In Ukraine, the weather plays a big part in cooking; utilizing the sun and wind. The various climates within Ukraine's five provinces create unique variations of traditional dishes such as varenyky (Ukrainian pierogies). People from different provinces believe that their dish is the best; though they are more than happy to get together and share recipes to make the dish even better.

Gjoa is a third generation Canadian Ukrainian and Irena a new arrival from Ukraine. They shared their cultures together to create community through food.
